Wani Ardy – Writes to Breathe

by Ax on April 25, 2010

Wani Ardy is a Malaysian, born in Kuala Lumpur and raised in Subang Jaya. She did her undergraduate studies in Performing Arts and Creative Technology, subsequently functioned as a scriptwriter penning several programs for TV. She taught Film Studies and Basic English in a college before lecturing on Artistic Writing in a public university.

Currently residing in New South Wales, she is undergoing her postgraduate studies in Creative Writing. These transitions occurred yet she never ceased from writing. She writes poems, proses, songs, short stories, scripts… au fond anything that the heart tells; nothing Shakespearean. She writes to breathe, fundamentally.

She has been performing her original pieces since 2002, both individually and by group, here and there within Malaysia. Organized a few art events around Klang Valley, she now co-manages a couple of companies with loved ones: Aftertwelve Studio (live sound company) and Gravy Baby! (musicafe). As you may have listened, she is not a songstress. No record label and no album; just storytelling sessions that keep her contented.

What People Thought About Her

Wani Ardy, a relatively baby-face singer/songwriter is more than willing to wear her heart and thoughts on her sleeve. She thinks it’s more than that, “I don’t do this merely because I want to; I need to. My unsettled emotions and thoughts can only be calmed through writing,” adds Wani. “To conclude those writings with melodies would be like, closing a diary at the end of the day and saying everything will be alright.”

Wani Ardy seems to think that (The KL Sing Song) has much to do with the intimacy and rapport the performers seem to share with their audience. “The audience feels closer to the performers. Even we, the performers, would feel closer to each other.”

- Adrian Yap, The Star (Oct 30, 2009)

A scriptwriter by day, a singer-songwriter by night, Wani Ardy has a vision. A vision to see people come together to share about their wishes and dreams (through Hari Bintang Jatuh).

Lady with a guitar, Wani Ardy created soothing ambiance in the joint, especially the blend of cello and acoustic guitar during her set.
